Kryvche nowadays is a village in Borshchiv region, about 25 kilometers to the south on the road leading from Borshchiv to Melnytsia Podilska.
A town under the name of Oplakana (former name of Kryvche), situated on the bank of the river Tsyganka was known since 1650. It was attacked by enemies many times.
In 1672 it was destroyed by the army of sultan Magometh V. In 1675 the king Yan III Sobiesky after capturing the castle ordered it to be rebuilt. But the order was not carried out. In the Austrian times Kryvche became a small town in Borshchiv region, but remains now as the village famous all over Ukraine.
